Διάλεξη του Πρέσβη της Ν.Αφρικής στο “ Ακαδημαϊκό βήμα των Πρεσβευτών” του New York College"
Την Πέμπτη 30 Οκτωβρίου, η Α.Ε. ο Πρέσβης της Ν.Αφρικής κ.Repulane Makgetlas έδωσε διάλεξη στο «Ακαδημαϊκό Βήμα των Πρεσβευτών» {“The Ambassadors’ Academic Tribune”} του New York College σχετικά με την ιστορία, τον πολιτισμό και τις σύγχρονες εξελίξεις στη Νότια Αφρική,“ το λίκνο του πολιτισμού». Η διάλεξη εστίασε στο έγκλημα του apartheid που επέβαλαν οι αποικιοκράτες, καθώς και στον αγώνα του λαού της Ν.Αφρικής για την κατάργησή του υπό την εμπνευσμένη ηγεσία του μεγάλου ηγέτη ΝΕΛΣΟΝ ΜΑΝΤΕΛΑ.
Μετά την ομιλία του Πρέσβη, που παρακολούθησαν πολλές δεκάδες φοιτητών διαφόρων εθνικοτήτων, προβλήθηκε ταινία που κεντρικό θέμα είχε το apartheid, και η οποία άφησε εξαιρετικές εντυπώσεις.
Την εκδήλωση παρακολούθησε ο Πρόεδρος του New York College κ.Ηλίας Φούτσης, και ο ε.τ. Πρέσβης κ. Σπύρος Θεοχαρόπολος, ο οποίος είχε υπηρετήσει στη Νότα Αφρική, και αναφέρθηκε επιγραμματικά στην εκεί ελληνική παροικία.
Τους επίσημους προσκεκλημένους καλωσόρισε ο Καθηγητής, Υπεύθυνος του Σεμιναρίου και Διευθυντής των Διπλωματικών και Διεθνών Σπουδών του New York College κ.Π.Ι.Καραφωτιάς.
S. AFRICAN AMBASSADOR’S LECTURE IN “THE AMBASSADORS ACADEMIC TRIBUNE” AT NEW YORK COLLEGE
On Thursday 30 October, H.E. the Ambassador of South Africa, Mr. Repulane Makgetlas, delivered a lecture in “The Ambassadors’ Academic Tribune” at New York College on the history, civilization, and modern international relations of South Africa, the “cradle of civilization”. He focused on the criminal system of apartheid that was imposed by the colonial powers, and the struggle of the South Africans under the great leader NELSON MANDELA to abolish it.
A film on apartheid, brought by the Ambassador, was shown to the many dozens of multinational students, who attended, and were very much impressed.
The lecture was attended by the President of New York College Mr.Elias Foutsis, and the Greek Ambassador a.h. Mr. Spyros Theocharopoulos, who had served in S. Africa, and spoke at the end of the event to the students about the Greek community in S. Africa.
Professor P.I.Karafotias, Director of Diplomatic and International Studies, and in charge of the Seminar, welcomed the S. African Ambassador as well as the honorable guests.
